new harvesting
oliopellegrino | 19 November 2009

Here we are, this year again, with olives harvesting and extra virgin olive oil production.

I don't know if you ever experienced growing house plants; they need care with water, vitamines, cleaning dry flowers and leaves.....

Just think we are doing the same with each of the 23,000 olive trees in our farm. Further more, we always hope nature will help us. And when it rains, above all during summer, when rain is necessary, we always hope it will not turn into hail. And when it's windy, that the little olives will grasp the branch not to fall down. And you can do nothing to avoid or to force it.....it's nature, our wonderful daily adventure.

Harvesting started and it's great!!! Nature was generous with us this year: rain was abundant and wind just caressed olives, making them strong and juicy.

Mother nature always provides us with her gifts; are we ready to appreciate them?

Wow, it must be stressful to manage the health of so many trees! It seems like so many. How many liters of olive oil can be made from 23,000 trees?

For sure, it's stressful!!! but it lasts one year and when you see little olives growing on the branch happiness overcomes stress.
And after harvesting new stress comes....I'm joking, I love my job!! with 23,000 olive trees, you can produce an average of 145,000 liters of extra virgin olive oil, it depends on how much extra virgin olive oil olives contain (normally, for varieties we use, it's 18%, but this year is around 14-15%)
Please, always call it extra virgin, because there is an enormous difference with olive oil. Thanks

I think I might trade my job for the chance to live in Italy & grow olives! Keep up the good work, there is still too much poor quality olive oil in the world! Good luck with the rest of the harvest, I look forward to all the fresh extra-virgin olive oil that's about to hit the market!

Let me know if you come to Italy to grow olives, I'll welcome you!! I do not totally agree with you about quality EVOO in the world: There are many, but there is also a lot of ignorance about it. We should learn to taste food in the right way and with some curiosity, we will discover new planets.....
Thanks for everything
